London Schools Chamber Orchestra

The London Schools Chamber Orchestra runs alongside the LSSO Christmas and Easter courses and acts as a springboard for less experienced string players into the LSSO.

London Youth Recorder Orchestra

The London Youth Recorder Orchestra (LYRO) is for all recorder players aged 10 – 20.  Students need to play at least 2 sizes of recorder, so for example, descant and treble, descant and tenor or treble and bass, and be able to sight read music fluently. There are no auditions for the Orchestra but we do ask for a reference from applicants’ current recorder teacher. Students should be approximately grade 5 +, up to the most advanced standard.

JUNIOR & INTERMEDIATE SUMMER MUSIC SCHOOL

Open access courses (no audition needed) which offer a stimulating, friendly, and highly enjoyable musical experience for children aged from 6 to 16. The courses are led by specialist tutors working alongside a caring team of pastoral staff and are designed to provide a progressive musical pathway for children, complimenting their regular term time activities both in and out of school.

The courses culminate in an informal performance open to parents and friends and include ensemble playing, orchestra, singing and creative work.

ACADEMIC COURSES

ABRSM Grade 5 Theory Booster Days

This course is a booster, crammer day for musicians who are preparing for the ABRSM Grade 5 Theory qualification. The requirements of each question that is usually set will be examined in detail with a strategy for tackling each one. A mock examination will be devised to give each participant an idea of what will be involved. We encourage applicants to bring any questions about aspects of the examination that are causing them concern. At the end of that day, it is envisaged that those who have attended will be equipped to do well when they sit the examination’.

The course is usually held in the Easter break to prepare for the June exam.

For further details about this holiday course please email adagg@cym.org.uk or call 020 7928 3844.
